Our Services
What We Offer
Whatever brought you through the door, there's a way in that fits.
Pottery Classes
Small groups learn wheel-throwing or hand-building at their own pace, with help close at hand when a pot starts to lean or a wall gets too thin. You leave with a finished piece and enough grasp of the clay to want another go.
Studio Membership
Members get a shelf of their own and open studio hours outside class times, so half-finished work has somewhere to sit between visits. It suits anyone who wants to keep practising without booking a class every week.
Private Parties
Birthdays, hens and work nights take over the studio for a couple of hours of wheel-throwing or hand-building. No experience needed, clay on the hands guaranteed, and groups tend to stay past the time they booked.
Gift Vouchers
A voucher covers a class, a party place or studio time, and lets the person choose their own date. It's a good option for anyone who'd rather give an afternoon than another object.

About Us
A Studio Built Around the Wheel
Kiln & Clay started because Frome needed somewhere to sit down, get covered in clay, and actually make something. The studio runs on two things: wheel-throwing and hand-building, taught side by side so beginners and old hands can work in the same room without either feeling out of place. Most people who walk in have never touched a wheel before, and most leave that first class with a wonky but genuine bowl and a plan to come back. We keep classes small enough that there's always someone free to help when a pot starts to lean, or to explain how much water is too much water. Members get their own shelf space and open studio hours to keep working between classes. We've also had birthdays, hen parties and work nights in for a couple of hours at the wheel, most of them expecting to laugh at themselves and leaving with a piece they actually want to keep. The clay dust settles, the kiln does its slow work overnight, and what comes out is something you made yourself.
FAQs
Common Questions
Do I need any experience to book a class? +
No, most people who come to their first class have never touched clay before. Everyone starts at the same point, whether that's centring on the wheel or building a first pinch pot, so there's nothing you need to know in advance.
What should I wear? +
Clothes you don't mind getting clay on, ideally with sleeves you can push up. We provide aprons, but clay finds its way to cuffs and knees, so leave the good trousers at home.
How does studio membership actually work? +
Membership gets you your own shelf space and access to the studio during open hours between classes, so you can keep working on pieces without waiting for the next booked session. It suits people who've done a class or two and want to carry on at their own pace.
Can you host a party for a group that's never done pottery before? +
Yes, most private parties are complete beginners, and that's exactly what the sessions are set up for. We show everyone the basics and let people find their own way from there, wonky bowl or ambitious jug.
How far in advance do I need to book? +
Classes and parties can fill up, especially at weekends, so a week or two ahead gives you the best choice of dates. Gift vouchers last plenty of time, so whoever receives one can pick a slot that suits them.
